FAQ

Is KanaLearn free?

Yes, entirely free and with no ads: N5 to N1 kana, kanji, vocabulary and grammar, reviews, games, duels and leagues.

I don't know any Japanese, where do I start?

With hiragana and katakana, learned together: they are the same sounds, with two shapes. KanaLearn teaches them and has you review them at the right time. A placement test puts you at your level if you already know some.

How does spaced repetition work?

Each item comes back just before you would forget it. The FSRS algorithm adjusts the interval to your answers: you review less and remember more.

Does it prepare for the JLPT?

The content follows the JLPT levels, N5 to N1, with mock exams (vocabulary, kanji, grammar, reading, listening).

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes: KanaLearn installs like an app from the browser, on Android and iPhone.
